Library
The church library is located just off the Narthex (east side of the building). It offers a variety of books for children, teens, and adults. Our church librarian is Lucille Konen. Lucille provides reviews of new books each month.
New Books -- April
Wonderland Creek
by Lynn Austin
It’s 1936 — the depression. Alice Ripley of Blue Island, Illinois, has just been laid off from her job as librarian. She’s been collecting books for the library in Acorn, Kentucky, and corresponding with the librarian there. Her aunt and uncle are going on a trip. They will drop Alice off at the library in Kentucky and pick her up in a couple of days.
Alice finds the library is in an old house. The librarian is a man named Leslie, who Alice thought was a woman. Upstairs in the house Miss Lillie, who is 100 years old, lives and takes care of Leslie, who lives downstairs in the library. You’ll learn why Miss Lillie takes care of him.
Books are delivered to people by horseback. Alice, who has always had her nose in a book, knows nothing about horses. Leave it to Miss Lillie. She gets Alice up on the horse and out delivering books. Miss Lillie sees to it that Alice is out delivering books when her aunt and uncle come to pick her up.
Miss Lillie tells Alice, “we need your help.” You won’t believe all the things Miss Lillie gets Alice involved in. Alice says, “I used to read all the stories. Now I’m living them.”
You will enjoy this book. The author has the best dialogue for her characters. She’s the best! Read it!
