New Books -- November

Called by Name, Called To Serve
by Lola Ruff

Lola Braaten was a Parish Worker at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in 1958 when Erling Aarthun was pastor.  She was at Bethlehem for six years.  Lola was liked by all.  In her book there is a chapter on Bethlehem.

Lola tells about her childhood living on a farm and in a small town.  Lola has a twin sister and a younger brother.  She tells of her marriage to Dale Ruff.

In the back of the book, Appendix C, Lola has a prayer that was read for Lenten meditation at Bethlehem in 1992.  She has a note about the prayer which is very interesting.  Here's a quote from Lola's mom to her children, "Remember you are just as good as anyone else, but not any better."

Sonja Myhre donated the book with a message from Lola, "I want the book to be in the Bethlehem Lutheran library."  Thank you, Lola, and thank you, Sonja.

This book can be purchased on-line from Barnes & Noble.  The cost is $9.
